She brought together both worlds and brought Tejano music to the forefront. Her sudden passing which shattered her rising reputation. It happens to a lot of stars who die too young. Through the years, her fans were inspired to work even harder in order to ensure that her accomplishments would not go unnoticed. The tragic shooting death of Selena provoked a response from the Latino community that was similar as the reaction to deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. A hugely popular Latino musician in North America, Selena's music has touched many lives throughout the world. Selena was a hot glamorous performer on stage who was sometimes referred to by her as the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an excellent role model since she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigning.
