Courtney Shanade Salter, also known as Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed as the label's debut female singer with Dreamville Records by J. Cole. In October 2016, Ari Lennox released her Pho EP. It was here that she received recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. The album was released in May of 2019. Ari Lennox released her music online in 2012, when she dropped her five Finger Discount mixtape and Ariography EP in 2013. In 2014, she dropped additional music on the internet including Bound. The 21st day of July, 2015, Omen featured her on Elephant Eyes song"Sweat It Out. J. Cole had her send her songs in the direction of his Dreamville Team later that year, as he wanted Rihanna to be able work with her on some references. In December 2008, the news was made public that Rihanna was hired by Dreamville Records. Backseat is a track that she recorded with Cozz in her Revenge of the Dreamers II collaborative album. In October 21, 2016, she released her debut EP called Pho. Ari Lennox was a guest on J. Cole's Change as well as performing as part of the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour as opening performance. In 2018, she appeared in two tracks, including the EarthGang's Nothing but the Best song as well as Bas's Icarus. The debut album of Ari Lennox Shea Butter Baby was released on July 16, 2018. The first single, called Whipped Cream of the album came out September 5, 2018 with an accompanying music video. The second single she released was Grampa on November 9. Two additional singles were also released by her on November 13 with the titles Pedigree and One. Shea Butter Baby was released as her first single on February 26, 2019, to accompany the album Creed II. Shea Butter Baby was featured alongside Cole on The Creed II sound track on the 16th of November. In February of 2019, a music video was released to promote the song. It has already received nearly three millions views on YouTube within its debut week. She was part of the 6LACK's From East Atlanta With Love Tour at the end of December the year 2018.
